International Baccalaureate
Patterson International is proud to be the first school in the Jeffco Public Schools to be authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) to all students, kindergarten through sixth grade.
IB Primary Years Program Advantage
The IB program gives learners distinct advantages by building their critical thinking skills, nurturing their curiosity and ability to solve complex problems through student-initiated action.
The IB program differs from other curriculums in these ways:
- Encourages learners of all ages to think critically
- Equips learners to drive their learning
- Encourages learners of all ages to consider both local and global contexts
- Develops multilingual students which leads to more culturally aware learners

IB Students Often Perform Better
IB students develop strong academic, social and emotional traits. They are also likely to perform well academically–often better than students on other curricula.

Primary Years Program Exhibition
The Primary Years Program exhibition is an event where our sixth graders are allowed to share their understanding of a real-life issue from their community and create their mini-unit of inquiry.
During the exhibition, learners will explore and present their newfound knowledge to the school community. Doing an exhibition empowers our learners to develop their autonomy and inquiry-based learning. This event also gives them complete ownership of their learning and the space to take student-initiated action.
All exhibitions are student-initiated, designed, and collaborative. This allows learners to explore topics from a variety of perspectives that they can then apply to future learning.
Patterson IB Policies
International Baccalaureate in Jeffco
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program was founded in 1967 to provide a rigorous, well-rounded education for students throughout the world. The IB prepares students for adulthood by enhancing skills in creativity, critical thinking, technology and international understanding.
Students may earn college credit for the IB exams by scoring a four or higher. Students who complete the IB Diploma Programme shall, at a minimum, receive 24 semester credits. These credits can apply to general education, elective or major requirements (at the institution’s discretion). The credit is guaranteed to transfer but it’s not guaranteed to apply to degree requirements. Please contact the colleges you wish to attend to see how your IB scores will be accepted.
